Emancipation Park is located in New Kingston and is a harmonious mixture of beautiful scenery and Jamaican history. The park was built as a tribute to celebrate Jamaica’s freedom from slavery in 2002 and today is enjoyed as a place of leisure for many individuals.

Despite being located in one of Jamaica’s most busy co-operate areas, the park maintains a relaxing atmosphere that it’s visitors enjoy. It is very common to see individuals jogging, lounging on the lush green lawns or just relaxing on the many park benches available for seating in the Emancipation Park. The park is very spacious with stone paved walkways and lush greenery that provides both shade and beauty. The park has a lovely display of magnificent tropical plants that include Jamaica’s national flower Lignum Vitae, Bougainvillea, palm trees and many others.

Beautiful plants and flowers are not the only thing to see at the park, Emancipation Park is also home to several different sculptures. These sculptures include statues of Jamaica’s seven national heroes organized in chronological order according to their birth along a walkway. This walkway is called “Heroes walk” and is the first path to be seen when entering the park from it’s main entrance.

Upon entering the main entrance of Emancipation Park, a most outstanding sculpture of a nude male and female looking up to the sky can be seen. This 11 ft tall statue is called the “Redemption Song” and symbolizes Jamaica’s liberation from slavery.
